Camp Lejeune Water Contamination

/ General / By Delaney Fenton

There is a large Marine Corps base in North Carolina called Camp Lejeune that has been in use since WWII. Over a million people have lived or worked on the base over the years. Recently it was revealed the Camp Lejeune water was heavily contaminated with toxic chemicals that are known to cause cancer. Studies determined that this contamination existed from 1953 to 1987. Former residents of Camp Lejeune have been blocked from bringing lawsuits and getting compensation because of a strict 10-year statute of repose in North Carolina.

However, Congress is on the verge of passing a new law, the Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA), that would allow victims of the water contamination to avoid the North Carolina repose statute and file civil lawsuits in federal court. The CLJA has already been passed by the House and is awaiting approval by the Senate. If the Senate passes the CLJA it will immediately open the gates for thousands of potential victims to file lawsuits in federal court.

Work is already underway by many law firms to start amassing their Plaintiffs in preparation for the litigation by obtaining their medical records and conducting medical summaries and chronologies to determine the timeline and connectivity to Camp Lejeune. If you know of any friends or family members impacted by their time at the base, act now to protect their claim.

Check if you are eligible for compensation.
